Fudai Way Project

Empowering rural Japan through "super glocal" community initiatives.

Introducing the Fudai Way Project

Rural Japan is facing a number of challenges: rapidly aging populations, declining birthrate, social isolation and thousands of vacant houses resulting in communities that are disappearing. Simultaneously, many young people struggle with a low sense of self and lack of purpose.

To address these challenges, we are using a hyper-local x global synergy - “Super Glocal” to involve local residents, the village mayor, returning entrepreneurs, and international collaborators.

We are building a prototype ecosystem in Fudai Village (Iwate Prefecture, population ~2,500), consisting of the following:

  • A community café (AWAI) as a gathering space for locals and newcomers.

  • A guesthouse (KP Coliving House) for short and mid-term stays.

  • A co-creation program for digital nomads, students, and young professionals to engage with local life.

  • Utilization of vacant houses for social and educational initiatives.
